CRAVE FEATURE SPOTLIGHT POSSESSION AND COBRA'S CHAIN by DEJANA VULETIC'

EXCERPT OF Possession - THE GREATLY ANTICIPATED SECOND INSTALLMENT IN THE KEEPER OF LIGHT TRILOGY
by DEJANA VULETIC’

"Let. Her. Go."
My words were so static—so separated, so malicious—that I felt myself momentarily cringe at the sound of my own voice.
Cicero just laughed at me, his disgusting fingers caressing McKenna's side.
"I'm afraid I can't do that, Desdemona," he replied stoically. "You see, I need her."
McKenna momentarily stirred in her slumber, and opened her beautiful eyes to gaze up in horror into Cicero's onyx eyes. She hurriedly looked around, her tear-filled eyes coming to finally rest on me.
"Mom," she murmured, reaching out her arm for me.
"I'm here, sweetie," I said instinctively, feeling my insides collapsing as Cicero twisted his body away from me.
"Sorry, Desdemona," he replied, and I felt the livid tears stinging my eyes as he took a step away from me. "I'm just going to borrow her. It'll be a while until I can give her back to you, but I'll bring her corpse back to you if that is what you wish."
            "Mom!"
"No!" I rushed at him in panic, but with another step his figure began to disappear into the darkness . . .
McKenna's cries punctured the night sky like dying stars, and I propelled myself toward Cicero's fading body as he took another step away from me.
"Come on," I whispered desperately, feeling the darkness gather beneath the soles of my feet. I felt myself moving faster as I pushed off the air and propelled myself toward them, but it still wasn't fast enough.
With one last cry, McKenna's protesting was silenced as Cicero disappeared completely, and I could still hear his last words echoing in my mind as I let Yamikage's blade fall to the ground: "I'll bring her corpse back to you . . . if that is what you wish . . ."

Excerpt – Cobra’s Chain

It’s not easy running for your life every day, avoiding gun fire and struggling just to stay alive. It’s not easy watching everything you love being taken away from you. It’s not easy believing that you can trust someone and finding that they were the one to betray you. It’s not easy losing all hope in the face of instantaneous death. It’s not easy watching them go after your family just to get to you. It’s not easy . . . Being a survivor.
When you talk to someone—anyone for that matter—from the era of the freemen, they'll tell you what they thought their future would be like. Yeah, everyone thought the future would be awesome. You know, filled with hover craft cars, teleporters, all that crap. And that’s just what it was. Complete and utter crap. 'Cause the real future—the real 3042—has us running for our lives.
After four months of this shit, I've finally managed to make it to what we like to call a "safe zone." But that term never really sticks since the Coverts end up finding us and fucking up our plans.
They don’t like it when we know things. They think of it as a threat. Me? Yeah, I’m one of those. I’m one of the worst threats out there. Because I know what kind of crap they're trying to pull in Operation Onyx. Connor and I both know, and we’ve been on the run together since the Crisis happened a little over four months ago.
This is the first time since the Crisis that I’ve actually had access to a computer, so I figure I should tell you this now. So at least one person will know our story when there’s no one left alive.
